In honour of Zambia’s 56th Independence anniversary, Zambia Association in South Africa (ZASA) held its first ever virtual poetry competition. Fifteen (15) children aged between 11 and 19 years from 8 different ZASA branches took part in the competition.
Entrants to the competition needed to prepare only one poem which contained a message about Zambia. The presentations took place in the afternoon, on 24th October from the comfort of each participants’ home. There was a lot of excitement and of course anticipation as the programme started. The competitors were well prepared and performed very well. As it is with competitions, someone has to take the winning prize, therefore congratulations to the winners. We wish the best to everyone who participated.
All parents are encouraged and urged to take a keen interest in such competitions in the future. This provides a stage for young people to express themselves as well as give them an opportunity to learn about each other.
In conclusion, we thank ZASA NEC for organising the event, sponsors and all who made it possible to host this event.
