It’s hard as an individual to distinguish between legal vs fake permits. Please be informed that any permit granted to Zambians should either be done through VFS or the South African Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia.
There are no short cuts in obtaining permits.
We have had five incidents in the past two weeks where Zambians have been arrested on arrival and departure at the O R Tambo International Airport because of fake permits. At least all the five Zambians arrested were released with the help of our lawyers that have worked so hard. The latest Zambian being yesterday [Saturday] where we sent the lawyers for representation.
Please note that once you are caught with a fake permit, you have two options.
- Plead guilty, pay a fine in court of R10000 and legal fees for R3500 meaning that you are banned to enter South Africa for 10 years.
- Plead not guilty, Get a bail and legal fees amounting to R20000 so that the lawyers may resubmit your permit application to the immigration department to normalize your legality because the Immigration law provides for it.
We will work with a memorandum of understanding between ZASA and the lawyers that have helped us this far.
To avoid any inconvenience, please make sure that you obtain documents in the right way as per the immigration laws of this country.
Our contact in Zambia has done a lot of wonders, and more than 180 Zambians have obtained legal permits to live and work in South Africa.
